WSJ and LAT have articles saying that AOL’s content strategy is now real. We still think this is a bad idea. (via IWantMedia.com)

On IWantMedia’s frontpage “Eyeing Media” observations: “As part of its new repositioning, America Online is using a new slogan: “AOL for Life.” Indeed, according to a new survey, the vast majority of AOL users say they stick with the premium-priced Internet service not because of the content, but because they don’t want to switch to a new e-mail address.” It would be great if Patrick Phillips turned his observations into a blog, so that we could link to it. Phillips knows his stuff.

The Art of Blogging – Part 1 by George Siemens. “By various estimates, bloggers number between 750,000 and 1 million. The ecosystem of blogging is more important than the content being generated. The content has a life (i.e. new technology becomes obsolete)...but the process for content acquisition (blogging) stays continually fresh.” (elearnspace.org)

Future Shock: Mass Media, Editors to Vanish?: Mitch Glaser responds to various recent reports. “If there’s a common thread to these stories, it’s the idea that the Internet will bring more power to individuals, and lessen the power of big publishers, editors, and advertisers. While that sounds nice in an ideal, utopian, flowers-in-our-hair world, the reality is that Big Money will do its best to follow the Big Ideas if they catch on.” (ojr.org)

HiptopPlanet: Blackbelt Jones on Hiptop Nation, “I love it like almost no other place on the web – it’s being let in on millions of little personal places all at once. I can’t wait until it’s HiptopPlanet. I want to see tacos in Texas next to street violinists in Vienna next to school life in Kabul next to crazy bleach hair Ginza action in Tokyo.”

Reputation and you: Nice roundup of recent links on reputation systems from a most excellent weblog, Seb’s Open Research.
