Rob Schneider was excellent on Friday’s Real Time with Bill Maher (Feb. 6). Not only was he funny as hell, he had some good quips about the media. Here’s the discussion on Martha Stewart media coverage:
Bill Maher: The same week I read about the fact that Halliburton, Dick Cheney’s old company, really doesn’t pay taxes because they have their money in ever cheater’s haven in the world: Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Panama, Lichtenstein.… Aren’t there bigger fish to go after before Martha Stewart?
Rob Schneider: “We live in a society where everything is so surfacy. The media just go after one superficial thing after another. And it’s easy to go after Martha Stewart. Because you know who she is, she’s an easy target and she left herself wide open.”
Andrew Sullivan: “She’s a woman. She is a powerful, successful, accomplished business woman. Of course people want to bring her down. The fact that she’s advised by two gay guys as well just adds icing on the cake.

Carol Moseley Braun: She’s been targeted and she’s being made an example. And the tragedy of it, of course, is that the people who really ripped off and caused real harm to working people have not been punished yet. All those Enron employees who.… applause
Schneider: “You have a media that is owned by big business, and it’s for big business. So it’s tougher to have individual journalists, like Lowell Burton (?sp) for instance, who will put his neck on the line and go after big business. Very few journalists have the balls to go ahead and do this. That’s a fact. And big business are tougher to go after. (applause)
