We love Howard Rheingold because Howard connects the dots. In Business Week, the author of Smart Mobs sees a “new economic system” in the unconscious cooperation embodied by millions of Google links and Amazon lists.
He sees technologies such as the Internet, reputation systems, online communities and mobile devices not completely unlike the forces that drove early markets – and ultimately created capitalism.
Perhaps, says Howard, “these may make some new economic system possible.”
Already we are seeing the likes of Google and blogs “creating a crisis in the business models of the companies that depend on having a monopoly on distribution.”
